Church Reviews

10 things an introvert might tell you about worship.

1). If I wanted to stand up and introduce myself to a bunch of strangers, I’d go to an AA meeting.

2). The chances that I’m going to go drink bad (or even good) coffee after worship in a room full of strangers is roughly 0%.

3) just because I can carry a tune, please don’t ask me to sing in the choir on my first rSunday. It’s tacky and desperate…not welcoming!

4-10 will come as I keep having experiences while visiting churches.

  1. Regarding #3, I remember talking to a man at Phinney one morning who I noticed was new and enjoyed his singing. I invited to try out our choirs, specifically the gospel choir. And he came! And then he had the unfortunate experience of standing next to a former member (who shall remain nameless, but you could probably guess who it might have been) who blurted out several times “he’s singing the wrong part!” nice and loud for all to hear. And that was the last we saw of the nice young man with the pleasant voice in church or in choir. I don’t really blame him. I hope he found a nice place to worship and is singing in someone’s choir!

    • My introvert daughter once stalked her way into my office before worship, arms folded across her body, shoulders turned in and said “What part of my body language says “hello stranger! go ahead and hug me.”?” Good reminders all for those of us who operate in the less self aware land of the extrovert….
