Oxford – Day 2

Today we started out with a discussion with the Director of the Anne Frank House, Ronald Leopold. He was fresh from a reception at 10 Downing Street in honor of Anne Frank’s Birthday. The conversation was very interesting and applies to the course because we are studying the new composition Annelies. (more on that in a few days)

Next a very interesting lecture by Dr. Edward Higginbottom on the music of the Chapel Royal. Higginbottom has been the Director of Music at New College since 1976 and retires this year.

Here is a short clip of a 2 hour rehearsal with Higginbottom.  The singers are the Williamson Voices and His Boy’s and Men’s Choirs.

Next is Oxford great #2 Daniel Hyde. Choir Master and organist at Magdalen College. Speaking of Oxford’s Choral Schools and the daily work of Evensong.

The day was rounded out with hours of Conducting master classes and a late nite run to the pub.
